Default issues with codes and engine shaking

My wife's 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan's check engine light came on and started flashing then stays solid and flashes again. Shortly after, the engine starts shaking when it reaches about 50 mph. Now the ABS, BAS, Traction, and Brake light comes on and feels like the van wants to stall. Also, the radio is not working. I changed the spark plugs but done nothing else to it. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Welcome to DF

If the check engine light is on and its flashing. Stop and have it either towed to a shop or plan on spending some time here and on your vehicle. The flashing lamp is showing you have a serve misfire. Do you know which cylinder you are having the problem with? And do you have a 3.8 or 4.0 engine?

If the BRAKE and ABS lights are coming on during driving you need to stop driving it immediately. If you or a neighbor/friend has a scan tool you can use that to pull the codes but I would recommend getting that looked at very soon, even if the lights all go away the next time you start it up.

If I had to guess worst case you might have a major failure of the PCM and possibly the engine wiring. If either of those needs to be replaced it is not cheap. That doesn't factor in fixing whatever may have caused your CEL in the first place, if it was something different like a sensor or fuel injector malfunction.

You would still need to have the vehicle scanned for codes. A serve misfire will cause engine damage.

Thanks for the info you guys have given me. Alot of people are having similar problems with the same year and model. Shouldn't it be a recall or is that normal wear? Maybe i'm just frustrated but problems like these just makes me want to take this van back to the dealership and tell them to shove it. We spend so much money on something we need for the family and then this happens! I apoligize to everyone for saying it this way.

from the Owner Manual:
CAUTION!
Prolonged driving with the “Malfunction Indicator
Light” on could cause further damage to the emission
control system. It could also affect fuel economy
and driveability. The vehicle must be serviced before
any emissions tests can be performed.
If the “Malfunction Indicator Light” is flashing
while the engine is running, severe catalytic converter
damage and power loss will soon occur. Immediate
service is required.
