Default Weird Oscillating Sound

Hi All,

I own a 2008 caravan over the summer and probably more now, i noticed an oscillating sound when i am cruising (not using cruise control). Basically when i am over 40km/h or 25m/h i hear this oscillating noise. And its not the engine. When i accelerate, the engine is a different distinct acceptable noise. This on the other hand sounds weird. I tried recording it, but playback didnt result in me hearing the sound. It sounds like a playing card in bike spoke, a humming oscillating sound. not really flapping or rattling.

I did ask someone else to hear it (my wife) and she does.

has anyone else come across this..

Yes. But do you have the 62TE transmission? If you do, the problem is most likely the underdrive compound bearings.

The 62TE is the name for the 6-speed transmission, 41TE is the name for the 4-speed transmission. If you have a 6-speed transmission, you have the 62TE. If you have a 4-speed transmission, you have the 41TE. If you have the 3.8L V6 or 4.0L V6, you have the 62TE. If you have the 3.3L V6, you have the 41TE. When you put the transmission in the drive position if you utilize the autostick (pressing the shifter to the left or right to run through each gear ratio) and it has a range of numbers 1-6 in the display, you have the 62TE, if the range is limited to 1-4 you have the 41TE.

Good luck, and let us know how it turned out!

There are couple of way to let me know which transmission you have, 1 send me a pm with the last 9 of the vin, 2 does the transmission have a yellow handle to check the fluid level or does it have a cap to seal the dip stick and 3rd do you have a big square oil pan or small pan? Here is the break down on the transmissions. The A604 which is now the 41TE....... 4= How many forward speeds, 1 the type of load/duty, T= transaxle and E= Electronic. That goes the same with any of the dodge transmission. Just remember the first number is how many forward gears. Reverse doen't count.

I have a couple of Ideals. One the wheel/axle bearing and two the transfer gear whine. The transfer gear whine can be fixed, But you may hear the whine come in at a higher gear. Since you don't have the 62TE trans, that leaves out the compunder bearings. Try to isolate the noise.
