Default Gotta reset TCU again. 3-2 Bump shift started.

And long time ago, I had bump shifting when coming to a stop. 3 years or so ago.
Went to dealer for a reflash / program update for the TCU. Problem was solved. Before I left. The dealer warned me that multiple drivers on the Caravan sometimes promotes this bump shift while downshifting problem.

Just yesterday my van started bumpshifting when coming to a stop between the 3-2 downshift.
Same symptoms as 3 years ago. Does it in D only. If I put it in 3, it downshifts 3-2 fine. This is just like before too.

My questions are:
- Is this always going to keep happening due to multiple (me and wife) driving?
Or why does this downshift bumpshift happen?

-Why does it only do it in "D" and not when in "3" ?

-Can I reset the TCU myself? Battery off for 20+minutes does Not work. I tried.

I am a mechanic. I looked up everything I could on my Mitchell account. None of the reset or shift learn procedures work. I don't have the Dodge specialist DRB diagnosis tool. I don't work at dodge or work on auto trannies very much.

Also: a when the dealer techs plug it in,.. does it get reset the TCU, reflash it all over, shift learning parameters reset or? ,... My TCU is running the latest software from what I know.
Last time I was there, I spoke to tech. He just said, I plug it in and it speaks to Chrysler. It's automatic. It's a TSB we do alot. He didn't seem to know himself exactly what gets done. Just that it costs $100.00. 45seconds after he plugs it in and the automatic TSB for bumpshift while downshifting gets fixed.

What would these kind of techs do with a carburetor years ago.

I have seen master techs on the forum. Please let me know what you know about this.
Anyone that has any bump shift repair tips that might apply, please post what you know.

I don't have any other problems with the van, nor do I have any codes.

Okay, I spoke to dealer. I got my appointment for next Monday.

It took some time to find someone that knows anything concrete about this. I finally got a tech that knew something.

He calls it a Quicklearn procedure. They want .8hrs for Labour again.

This quicklearn earases everything the TCU learned and starts out of box fresh again.

According to the tech, it's a popular issue and more so on multiple driver vans. He mentioned that once the bumpshift starts, the TCU will never un learn it until it gets reset via the quicklearn.

I wish I could reset it myself but unless someone here knows a trick, even my Mitchell account has no info on reseting the TCU without Dodge tools. Friggin Dodge and their proprietary computer Crap.

I am getting about 66,000kms trouble free shifting. Then the bumpshift starts.

Anyone have more info to add to this? Tips or other issues that cause or fix this? I read somewhere that a faulty TPS sensor can deal to bumpshift. Any and all information about this would be appreciated. I hate not fully knowing why or being able to repair it myself.

I got the Quicklearn done at dealer today.

All bumpshifting is gone. Transmission runs like new again.

I hate that I have to go the dealer for this and that they don't seem to have any answers about it other than it works and pay me.

There is sadly some weird quirk in the programming of the Caravan TCU. Once it starts bumpshifting, the only way and right way to fix it is have a dealer perform the quicklearn procedure.

Today, they charged me $100.00 for this. I guess it's cheap for a transmission repair but, it's $100 too much for something I should be able to reset myself.

I hope my posts here help some in the future. There is alot of unscrupulous dealers and mechanics out there that can and will take advantage of people.
Get a Quicklearn first. Even me today, the dealer had one mecanic who's first words was you got a mechanical problem in that transmission. Maybe valve body or shift solenoids. If i was the typical know nothing about cars, they could have taken bad advantage of this.

My van is a 3.3l from 2003. From what I know 2001 - 2007 is the same.

Someone should make a sticky about this. There is stories all over the net about people that have had their transmission opened, worked on, rebuilt and so on. And in the end, a Quicklearn was all it needed.

To finish, does anyone know what exactly causes or activates this hiccup in the TCU's programming?

My wife and I both drove our '99 GC 3.3L 41TE and never had a shifting issue. Likewise for our '08 T&C 3.3L 41TES. The '99 GC shifted perfect from the day it was new until we traded it at 220K miles. The '08 doesn't hold TCC properly and unlocks too easily, presumably that is down to changes in the software or the variable line pressure change. No bump shifts yet, but it only has about 65K miles. It's a shame that removing the battery for 10 minutes doesn't initiate a full relearn aka "quicklearn". Coughing up $100 every time is frustrating.

Now I've seen lots shade tree DIY guys like me write rants like this, but can't recall one coming from a mechanic. Definitely worth a
Just for giggles, I called a couple of local specialty transmission shops, asking if they could do a relearn. Nobody could, which indicates that either Chrysler won't sell this stuff, or they will but the price is off-the-charts. Now it's interesting that you can buy a reman '03 TCM online with a year warranty for $200 (+ TCM core return). These TCMs are sold plug-and-play, fully programmed. So I wonder if these outfits go to a dealer for reprogramming (but not at $100 a pop), or perhaps they have acquired the necessary equipment themselves.
But I fully agree with you that the bottom line on this is another example of gouging. I know that the "book" shop charge is normally always SOMEWHAT more than it takes an experienced tech to do the job. But a job that probably takes 5-10 minutes, being billed out at .8 hours
