Hoping someone can help us. We have a 2002 grand caravan we bought used from original owner. T"he other day the air bag light came on after a little time we smelled an awful burning smell. We opened the hood and could not see anything and could not smell the burning. When we walked back we could smell the burning from the dashboard area back. Could not see any flame etc. I need this van to transport our handicapped son and right now we are afraid to drive this. Does anyone know what it could be? Ive been looking and noticed Clock spring could be an issue however I haven't seen anything where someone mentioned a burning smell. Thank you in advance for any information and even if someone can point us in the right direction.

 

The airbag control module is mounted at the bottom of the center console. A shop will have a scanner capable of reading airbag system faults.
