hot brakes
unless you're resting your left foot on the brake, I'd look into whether or not your caliper is seized or seizing. Something is keeping the pads too close or on the rotor as you drive (from what it sounds like) and you'll need to get the wheel off and see what's up.
Based upon your knowledge with brake systems, I strongly suggest you take it to a dealer or brake shop to have the brakes inspected for seized caliper piston or issue with adapter plate rust (causing pads to hang) or floating caliper pin system seized. You will not find the root cause by simply removing the wheel and staring at the system. You need to have substantial experience repairing brakes and the system needs totally disassembled to check it. Many mechanics just throw new pads on instead of fixing the problem, so a novice will never see it.
