[4th Gen : 01-07]: Napa Adaptive One Front Disc brakes rattle at low speeds
Been having some rattling issues at low speeds. 2001 Grand Caravan 143k. Firestone installed some Napa Adaptive One AD7732 front disc pads 6k ago. So still covered under warranty. But not sure if they take care of the labor for the rattling sound. When I apply slight pressure to the pads when the rattling starts with slow speeds over small bumps the rattling goes away. When I first picked up the car from Firestone one of the calipers was smoking. Not sure what they did. But it was okay for about 8 months, then the rattling started? So not sure if it's the loose pads to the piston, caliper pins/slides, or lack of grease? I know in the past when I got new pads they came with clips. Does anyone know if the Napa Adaptive One pads come with them? This Firestone has since closed. Probably a good thing, had to many returns for bad work. The car has also had the Link arms, stabilizer bushings, and struts replaced.
My car has rear drums so they use a different style on slide pins on the front calipers. Should these Slide pins be greased, if so how much.
Thanks

When replacing any brake pads or shoes. You should always lube the pins or backing plates. If you remove the pads and inspect anchor and see if there is any wear marks from the brake pads rattling.
Took car to Firestone. They found two things. First on the brakes the hardware slide clips for the pads were very loose. Also on the lower slide pin the one that has the replaceable sleeve, were missing on both sides. I think when the calipers stuck, after 20 miles back on 3/2013 and caused the calipers to stick and cause burning, they probably removed them, instead of cleaning things up, lubing, and installing new hardware (pad slap). So the new Firestone is going to replace all the pad hardware, slides and sleeve.
Next they found that the inner tie rods are worn. I verifed this myself with them. One of us rocked the tire side to side while I put my hand on the upper part of the inner tie rod and could feel the clicking. So my concern is that they were just replaced 11k ago, but not by Firestone. So why would they wear out so soon? Poor quality parts? After the inner tie rods and link arms were replaced it was aligned. It doesn't pull or shake?? So probably have to take off boots and check myself. Going to call Shop that did the work and find out what brand of inner tie rods were used?
Any suggestions on what brand of inner tie rod to use? I was thinking about using a Moog EV405 inner tie rod??
Any suggestions on what might cause this premature failure of the inner tie rods. Again still not sure if its the rods or the steering rack that has the wear. Any suggestions without taking the inner tie rod boots off to inspect the connections at the steering rack?
Thanks

Pickup car from Firestone. They installed new hardware kits on front brake calipers and it looks like rattling is gone. What they found was that the Original Firestone that did the work removed a sleeve that goes on the lower caliper slide pins had be removed??? So far so good. Will feedback again after a few weeks.
On the inner tie rods will have to get parts take apart and see if just inner tie rods or steering rack?
