Default noise on cold starts

I have 2012 caravan on cold mornings 20 of lower i am getting a noise that sounds like a back up alarm on truck. The noise is intermittent and goes away after warm up. The noise does not sound like a belt.

Did at any time did the check engine lamp come on? Was the vehicle before or after June 2008? You can find the information on the drivers door. Because there was a problem with the camshaft phasers on the 3.6 engines.

wecelliott,

In cold weather, some noises heard can be considered normal. The power steering pump may make noise for a short period of time upon start up when the temperature is low. This can be attributed to thick fluid. If this is the case, the noise can be considered normal and wouldn't damage the steering system.

Being a 2012 Van, there is a good chance your warranty is still valid. Have you had an opportunity to visit a dealership for a diagnosis?

Take Care,

My 2013 makes all kinds of noises when its cold. Amazed at how poor quality this vehicle is now that I purchased it.

Mine screams like a banshee when the overnight temp gets to -25c (-13f) and below. Dealership and anecdotal reports indicate this is rather common if not a little disconcerting. Reoccurs when making the first sharp turn out of the driveway so the power steering fluid is indeed a likely culprit.

On the upside it lets me know the van has started when using the remote start and the van is out of my line of sight... I can hear it from inside the house.
