Default Electronic Key Oddity

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

I had to go to an electronics store and buy a reel of 1k' CAT5e. I am in a project for a Municipal Gov't.

I locked my car with my Electronic Key - no problem.

When I returned to the Caravan the car did not react to the Electronic Key transmitter. I waited 10~15 mins with no change. I removed the battery from the Electronic Key and the CR2032 was "good".

Since I am in a networking project and I have to get into tight spaces, get on my back and be a contortionist I removed my Electronic Key from my key ring so my keys and wallet were placed in my backpack so I wouldn't drop and lose them and they were in my car !

I used the phone at the Electronics Store, called Borough Hall, and was picked up. Since my project entails upgrading the IT of the Police Department, I dropped by.

With a Police Officer, I returned to my Caravan. He used a rubber wedge to get the driver door pried open a tad. Then he used an inflatable air-bag to widen the door gap. Subsequently he used a semi-long pole and hit the car door unlock button. I put my Electronic Key in the ignition and she started right up. I turned off the car and now the electronic key could lock and unlock the doors.

I don't get it.

Why did my Caravan fail to react to my Electronic Key but once I had entry into the vehicle, started the engine then shutdown the engine I was subsequently able to use Electronic Key to Lock and Unlock the car doors ?

Don't know what caused it, but does your FOB have the door key that tucks into it?

Yes. But I removed the Electronic Key from my key ring so that key and all others were in my backpack in the car.

If I had not separated them then... well that would be another story.

only thing I think is that there might of locked the transmitter of the key. by you opening the door made the system recognize you have access. then by you installing the key into the ignition it reconized the chip and then re gave that key fob access to all accessories. that's why I always keep spare key programmed (2 working ones) to have access to re program a third in case one fails.

"...keep spare key programmed (2 working ones) to have access to re program a third in case one fails. "

Not sure what you mean by "programmed".

What a fine welcome I got here.

I post and then my email address is spammed for purchasing a Dodge Charger.

How unethical is that !

Hmm. Been on the forum for quite a while. Haven't seen it yet. But yup, that's not good at all. Might shoot a message to the administrator.

I did -- I received no reply.

So I went public.

I saved that email.

It came from; DodgeForums@internetbrandsauto.com

An address to put in the bozo bin and for all to block.

Default RF noise in area

If their is a lot of RF noise in the area the remotes won't work.
Some of the RF comes from Auto door openers in the stores
