[3rd Gen : 96-00]: 99 Grand/no gears/disconnect Solenoid pack goes into limp mode
I was hoping to give enough description in the title to trigger the help of all the great people here.
History:
1999 Grand Caravan 4 speed had a cracked bell due to the differential pin going through it--I guess this was a common problem.
I replaced it with a transmission from a friend's shop. He had one lying around. It didn't have any sensors or solenoid pack on it. I pulled everything off the old one and placed in on the new transmission (trans has only 20,000 miles on it).
Well, after getting everything together, the van doesn't move. It feels like it wants to. I can feel it shift between the gears as I move the lever, but no-go.
So, I read to disconnect the solenoid pack. I removed the connector and went through the gears again. The only gear that worked was Drive. So, I assume that was limp mode. At that point, it threw some pending codes: 0700 and 0750. I assumed that was related to having the solenoid unplugged.
I figured I would replace the solenoid thinking maybe there was a problem. I went to a bone-yard and pulled one off a similar van. Everything appears okay when I hooked it up. However, after installing the new (used) solenoid, I have the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance

A friend had a few lying around in his shop from when he worked on them.
I read somewhere that it's normal for a caravan to NOT have reverse in limp mode. I also learned that the TCM could be at fault and told me which pins to check with an ohm meter.
I did some testing of the pins and they weren't responding correctly so I replaced the TCM from a u-pull place ($25). I had to check about 5 TCMs before I found one that returned the right meter readings.
Long story short: replaced TCM and now the new transmission shifts in all four gears and reverse and runs great.
Problem solved
