Problem turning key fob to OFF position
I own a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. Sometimes when I reach my destination and put my gearshift in Park, the key will not turn all the way to the Off position. It's in between the Accessory and the Off position, making it impossible to get the key out of the ignition. I have to restart the car, put it in another gear (R, N or D), then put it in Park again and try to turn the key to Off. Sometimes it works then, other times it doesn't, so you have to go thru the procedure again until the key will turn to the Off position. The indicator says the car is in Park, the engine is no longer running, but the key won't turn off all the way so you can remove it. This situation has been occurring off and on for a couple weeks now; can go days without it happening, then it'll do it a few times in a row. What is wrong with this vehicle and what can be done to fix it?
Disconnect the battery for a few seconds and put the cable back on and try to remove the key. If the key comes out, call the dealer and let them know you are having a problem with the ignition switch.
