I'm also thinking that checking out the kickdown linkage is a good direction. It's interesting you don't have the symptoms in park/neutral. It seems like if it's linkage bind, you should be able to re-create it with the car off, let alone in park/neutral.

The linkage moves with the tb, but I think just free moves in park/neutral.

I just took mine apart, cleaned (removed rust) and oiled mine. Never had another issue after that.

I wonder if that valve has no pressure in park/neutral. That was my other thought. I'm not familiar with the hydraulic flow on the A670 but on other trans I know that park/neutral are the same from a hydraulic pressure viewpoint; only difference is park applies the parking pawl.

I'm not sure on that. The A670/3-speed is based off the old torque-flight trans (modified to FWD), so I would guess it's very similar in valving to that.

I would definately start by checking that linkage though. It's cheap and easy to get at.

Probably the sooner the better. A670s are very picky.

This is exactly what it was. I found an honest mechanic who was able to give an actual effort and found that is was binding, and freed it completely. This mechanic is so honest, he actually told me to drive it for a week and come back and give him $20.00 for him taking care of it. If you're in the metro Detroit area, his name is Damian (Damian's auto service). If it continues to work as he described and showed me how to fix, I plan to give him the $20.00 and buy his shop lunch.

I suspected it was the linkage based on how hard it was to move, but I didn't have time to handle it myself. At least I learned something, which is worth the $20.00 and lunch for 4 people. :-)

I thought I would update in the event others out there experience this problem.

Great forum, very informative and helpful....thanks to those that responded. I appreciate it.
