Post 1997 caravan

I have a 1997 Dodge Caravan which has 248,000 miles on it. I have had this vehicle for about two years now and I have worked out many different problems. From the coil not getting any power to the radiator fan not cutting on or off. Also the check engine light goes on and off not too often but it does. When connected to the unit to check the codes there is none. When i bought the van in november 2012 it has 135,000 miles. I put 67,000 miles on it last year alone. I do all of the maintenace on it myself as it is my daily driver and my work vehicle.
I change my oil every 3000 miles regardless of the amount of time as it is usually about every 3 to four weeks. Someone told me that changing the oil that often id bad for the engine is this true?

Don't see that you're hurting anything but your wallet and your time especially if you're using synthetic oil.

I understand what you are saying there that is true. Als I would like to know about using 10w40 Rotella T in this 3.3 liter engine a friend told me I could go about 5 to 6000 miles between oul changes if I use that

Using a heavier weight oil is just going to wear things faster, especially on cold starts. Just keep with your 3k and whatever you've been using.

I'll put it this way. I have a 96GC with 212k miles. I've been using a half dozen name brand conventional oils for decades. I change it every 5000 miles. On our other cars I use synthetic and change it every 8000 miles. I've always used the viscosity oil recommended in the owners manuals. I've never had an engine related problem. I'm not familiar with Shell Rotella oil.

Shell Rotella is diesel oil. Diesel guys know the name well. I agree, just maintain regularly.
