[4th Gen : 01-07]: Ignition System
I have a 2006 Caravan. Runs rough. P0302 code for #2 cylinder misfire. Pulled the wire off the coil. Started the car and no spark coming from coil. All others have strong spark. Coil seems to ohm out ok. What tells the coil to fire each plug? Computer? I'm probably going to get the coil but I'd like to make sure it's not something else.
Thanks

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) powers the coil via the automatic shutdown relay and turns on a ground to each of the three coils in the coil pack based on timing data from the cam and crank sensors. Cylinders 2 and 5 are fired by coil #3 in the pack.
You can test each of the coil driver circuits in the PCM at the coil connector with a test light. If the light blinks as you crank it it's good. If the light doesn't light it could be the PCM or wiring between. If the light stays on the PCM coil driver is bad. Considering you're not getting a code on coil 5 the driver is probably good though it wouldn't hurt to test them.
