Default tingling road noise help please !

I'm getting a tingling kinda of noise from the rear passenger side, sounded like bearings. So I had my mate take a look, he said wheel was fine, but cylinders leaking, replace shoes and machined drums.

However noise didn't go away.

So I road tested over a few days myself (wife's car) below is what I can confirm

1) Noise is like a tingling, (daughter describes it like a bird is trapped in the car)
1a) Noise seems coming from passenger side, from drivers seat hard to tell if front or rear

2) Only happens after car had driven about 20kms
3) seems speed specific, 60/80/100kms
4) not load specific, but can't g'tee
5) On the 400 hiway, I noticed, if I turn the wheel EVER SO SLIGHLY left or right, the noise goes and returns when the wheel comes straight, go into a long bend no noise
6) on parking after warm up sometimes
7) car in park, rev the engine and turn wheel, nothing

not in a posn to have a good look myself (long story)

taking it back on Friday, any ideas,

HELPSKI

cheers

Sounds like you'll need to repack the bearings with grease if you're lucky. Have to take it apart, clean it all with gasoline or whatever and look for scoring or burn marks on the bearings and races. If so, you'll need all new parts. If all looks good, pack the heck out of them and make sure you tighten them properly. The turning twists the load on the bearings and you'll either get more or less noise.

whoops, yes, thinking about another vehicle where the bearings are part of the rear drum. It is indeed a sealed unit bolted on.

wheel bearings with studs are $70.00 a piece at part houses with no core rebate. Wheel bearings can make a car do flips if just one locks up. Use quality synthetic grease which is <$10.00 a large tube.

If I have to replace a stud I replace the bearing unless I'm in a rough spot financially then I just bathe it in cheap gas, dry, and heavily grease it. Doing it on drums is a headache.. If there are any gouges or rust pits on ANY part of them you're wasting your time trying to refurbish them and asking for a crisis like with disc-brake caliper rebuilds..

interesting...

it says 2012 GCV, mine is a CV which is 2001-2007 (2006)

and my mate who is a service advisor (told me last time on a recall) didnt apply to me he has the VIN number.

saying that..... I wouldnt agree with him, but , I suspect its a pain to try and proove anything especially out of a out of w'tee vehicle.

but thanks for the info and I suspect your right,

he does give me a significant discount on the parts and sometimes i don't have to pay labour, Still on dealer pricing, but I know my car's done right...
cheers again
