[5th Gen : 08+]: P0038 again and again
Unfortunitly I own a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 3.8 with 85K, wish I had never bought it. The last major problem I had was the Cat. broke loose from the exhaust manifold flange, CA has to be a "Special" Cat. Looked ok when I took it off so I tiged it back to the flange using 309SS and put it back on. Changed the plugs to Iredium and 2 new O2 sensors. Disconected the battery before all the work so code would hopefully erase. Pot it all back together and no code till last Thursday when P0038 reappeared, erased it today. Whats up ? 2 new O2 sensors, new plugs ? I hope the light stays off long enough to trade this piece of junk in on anything else but a Chrysler product.
Did I mention it' on the 7th set of rear brakes ? Isn't that special ! !

If you didn't use OEM Denso or NGK sensors you might consider it. These vans especially don't like Bosch sensors or plugs.
Understand your angst. And Chrysler wonders why they've been number 3 or 4 forever.

Chrysler must have changed suppliers for the 5th gen vans, the OEM upstream sensor on my '09 (3.8L) was a Bosch. When I installed a new sensor (Bosch) the CEL returned almost immediately (within minutes) with the same code, even though the code was a two trip code and I had disconnected the battery.
I did some research and found that while the negative battery cable is dis-connected you need to touch it to the positive cable to clear the "stored" data in the PCM from the old sensor. I tried it (I left the cables connected for several minutes) and the light has stayed off ever since.

I haden't thrown away the original upstream, it's a Bosch sure enough.

Yep, I tried it with the Pos. still on the Bat. and with both pos and neg off. Neither method did anything. CEL still on. I have a friend with a Snapon code reader, will try it. So far nothing, including leaving the Bat. disconected for hours works. My cheep code reader use to be able to turn the CEL off but no more.
