Hi there, I have to replace the PCM on my 2006 dodge crand caravan sxt 3.8 and I got one off of a 2005 caravan. Should that work on my van. I plugged it in and it starts for a second and then shuts off again. Am I missing any steps or is the PCM off the 2005 defective? Thank you

 

pcms are not interchangeable like that. The PCM for your vehicle must have the exact same part number as the old one and it must be programmed to your VIN code or it won't work

Do you guys know roughly how much it is to program one? I got one used today with matching part number but the dealers are closed today to get it programmed.

Does the van have SKIM module and security key?


If so, you just need the same build PCM WITH SKIM


The dealer can program the used PCM to your van with the DRB by using the "PCM Replaced" selection on the SKIM menu. This will also update the VIN in the used PCM to your current VIN.

If you have a SKIM van and a SKIM Used PCM, the engine will start and die 3 times then comes lockout which takes a procedure to unlock it. Dealer CAN program it.

If you have a non-equipped SKIM van, you cannot program a SKIM equipped PCM to it.

If you have a non SKIM van and a Non SKIM used PCM, you can plug and play..However, the VIN cannot be changed. This may cause issues when city/state inspection time comes around.


Last but not least...If you misdiagnose the PCM, that is on YOUR dime not the dealers'
