Default Unusual(?) brake pad wear

2006 Grand Caravan

Front pads show more wear on the inners than on the outers on both wheels

The inner pads are about 2/3rds worn, but the outer pads are only about half worn. Is this normal wear?

Side issue: The front brakes make a grinding noise, but this is intermittent behavior. (This is why I inspected them.) The tire shop that installed them about a year ago (my wife did this while I was out of town) told me that this is a common problem for this vehicle, and, bless their hearts, they offered to install OEM pads for the increased cost of the pads over the ones they installed. These were supposedly premium pads (again, wife), but I've never experienced this type of grinding noise when there's still plenty of pad left. Any solution to solving the grinding noise. If the solution is new pads, any recommendations for those?

The piston is pressing the inner pads, so yes, the inners will wear differently than the outers.

Thanks! I guess I had not noticed this behavior with brake jobs I've done on other vehicles.
