Gas Tank/Check Valve for 97 Gr. Caravan
My wife has been driving a '97 Grand Caravan since new, and has been happy with it...BUT!
Recently, there was a news story out of Chicago about a family involved in a crash that resulted in the deaths of two of their children. The Caravan they were in was a pre-'01, and had no check-valve in the gas tank. On impact (tee-bone), the filler tube sheared, dumping the contents of the gas tank under the vehicle, which was quickly consumed.
My wife immediately contacted Dodge about this, expecting to hear about a recall or refit program, but was told that there is none in the works. Have any of you heard of this, or do any of you have any information on it? I don't care about sticking Dodge for the refit, I would just like to find out if I can retrofit a post-'01 gast tank into a '97 Grand Caravan, or if there is a check valve I can install without breaking the bank!
Any help or guidance any of you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
