[5th Gen : 08+]: instrument cluster dead, wipers on

instrument cluster dead, wipers on
2013 model just went spooky with random bouts of loss of instrument panel display with wiper going on. Also loss of directional signals and interior light control.
Problem repeats but duration vary from one day to several days then the problem goes away. I now open my door to see if the mileage display goes on, if not I know before starting the car, the problem has reappeared.
When I took to Dodge (Naples, FL), I was told they could not diagnose the problem unless it was apparent when I brought the vehicle in. Guess what the problem goes away when I bring the vehicle in.
I then have the vehicle transported via car hauler to RI (snowbird) and repeat again with Dodge dealer (Johnston, RI) and guess what the problem goes away as we enter the drop off area. Luckily the service manager takes the time to discuss this with a seasoned (25 years) repair man. Reads errors and traces problem to TIPM.
Bad news: TIPM's are on backorder throughout the country which leads me to suspect the part is defective on a massive scale.
I am awaiting a call from dealer as to when part comes in with no lead time estimated. I have since gotten a unit from junk yard and will attempt to install myself.
Should I have any concerns. I believe I will need to have dealer program replacement to match VIN. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Once you hear back from the dealership (or if you want to do it now), please feel free to send your VIN and confirm your contact at the dealership. I will look in to the backorder status issue.

Pretty sure there was a post on this forum about programing TIPMs a year or two ago. As I recall if it's a brand new TIPM the dealer has to program it but if it's a rebuilt or junkyard TIPM you can do it in your driveway using a procedure. That may be vice versa. Unfortunately, that's as far as my memory stretches. ANYONE RECALL THAT?
TIPM back order problems yet again. Thought that was cleared up some years ago but then we are talking about FCA.

Installed used unit, no programming required. Note: unit was from same year as well as same part number. Only difference was date of manufacture of TIPM, mine was 6/2013 and replacement was 3/2013.
It was easy to remove and install the used unit, I suspect the lack of new replacement unit from dealer is indication of a major issue with regard to TIPM. From my perspective, it may indicate a manufacturing and/or design issue going forward. Dealer advised the part is difficult to secure.....
