Default Are 2nd Gen doors interchangable?

I have a 91 Grand Caravan which needs a new passenger door.

At the scrapyard I went to, they told me the 1991's doors are unique to that year, and 92-95 passenger doors won't fit.

Is this correct? Finding a 91 door is proving quite difficult!

Thanks!

87-95 doors should all interchange. 91-95 for sure will interchange no problem.

I know the 1991's used the same external door handle as the earlier models (rectangular shaped) while the 1992 thru 1995's used door handles that were longer and narrower, and the corners were rounded.

Sorry, but I don't know if there are other differences, but that might be reason enough for the interchange books to say they are not interchangeable.

If your van looks like this, which being a 91 it should. Any 91-95 door will work. 87-90 ran the square door handles, but the handles can be swapped for the 2nd gen style.

That van is not a 1991 only the 1994 and 1995's had that side molding.

This is a 1991 (note the different door handle):

Note that other than the handle itself being square and chrome, the outer housing is identical.
The door without the molding is also identical.
But what would I know, I've never put pre 91 doors on post 93 vans.

Agreed, which is why I post this above:

Perhaps I should have added that there is very good chance that they will actually fit.

Thanks for all of the help! Really appreciated.

I wanted to update with the outcome:

I finally got my hands on a door from a 92 caravan. It fits perfectly, with only cosmetic differences (door handles, trim and window surrounds).
It looks out of place but it does the job. Beggars & choosers and all that.

I haven't reconnected the wiring yet but my main concern was getting the door watertight before winter, and lockable. So overall I'm fairly happy!

Thanks again.

Good to hear it worked out for you. Are you able to swap the parts off the newer door to make it match?

I can swap the door handles fairly easily. The window surrounds would be more difficult to replace.

The main difference is the different coloured paint work, but it's a 25-year-old car with a lot of quirks (and some careless owners), so mismatched paint is the least of it!

My hope is to nurse this old gal past the 300km mark! (currently at 294km).

But I would never have gotten this far without this forum!
