Hello,

I have a 97 Grand Caravan with a 3.0l motor and 3 speed auto transmission, I believe a 31th.

Anyway, I lost all forward gears, had only reverse, so ordered a rebuild kit from Dodge. Rebuilt it and got it all back together to find only had 1st, or maybe 1st and 2nd along with Reverse. Sorry to be vague, haven't done anything with it for over a year. Just started working on it again.

When I tore it apart this time I found that I had forgotten to re-install the input shaft snap ring.

I guess my real question is: before I take the time to put the transmission back in is will leaving out the input shaft snap ring cause the issues I mentioned earlier? I'd hate to get the transmission installed again just to find the same problem.

Any ideas?

If you don't mind, i'd like to ask you a question. How hard is it to rebuild a 31th transmission? Do you need any special tools?
