Default 02 Caravan Transmission Issue

94 Dodge Caravan with 3.0 l motor. Vehicle after pulling a hill while slowing down will not seem to downshift, then locks in 2nd gear limp mode. Shut off vehicle and restart and vehicle works fine for awhile then will do the same thing again. Any ideas on which area to look at. Speedometer works fine. The TCM has a replacement date of 10/06 on it. Vehicle has 148,000 on it. There are no check engine codes showing on the vechicle.

Moved to the correct section and changed the title to something that resembles your issue instead of your name.

When was the last time the fluid/filter were changed?
Are you sure this is a 4-speed? To my knowledge after 93 all 3.0s had the 3-speed mated to them.
Step 1: Check fluid level, low fluid will cause the trans to do all kinds of fun stuff.
Step 2: Change fluid and filter, dirty fluid or a clogged filter can cause these transmissions all kinds of trouble.
Step 3: Use ONLY ATF+3 or ATF+4 (preferred), anything else will kill your transmission. If you are having a shop do the work, make sure they know it only take ATF +4, if they do not, find another shop.

Try those things first and see if it solves your issues. If that doesn't, check out your solenoid pack, as they are another issue with these transmissions (again assuming it is the 4-speed).
