[4th Gen : 01-07]: Is my PCM dying?
It's an '03, 3.3 w/ no EGR. Warning... a long story!
Has AVITAL remote start installed which works fine but was the beginning of problems.
The installer did a crap job of routing the cabling. One of the fused red leads got tangled up in the parking brake mechanism which shorted the vehicle ignition lead blowing the 10 amp fuse in the power distribution box.
On replacing the fuse and repairing the lousy wiring job all seemed Ok.
Then when inspection time came the PCM would not talk to New York state's computer so it failed.
Put my hand scanner on it and the comms would come and go. Checked +12 volts and grounds at the DLC. OK. Recently pulled plug C2 at the PCM and metered out the PCI and ATX (IIRC) leads. All good, even snugged up the PCI (pin2) lead.
Other odd stuff is that on cold startup when the engine coolant reaches 160 the fan comes on full. Shut off the engine and restart and the fan stays off until gets up to normal operating temp.
Also, I'm gradually losing the items I can look at in real time. I can no longer see the engine temp. just the throttle position and RPM.
So, I'm considering a rebuilt programmed PCM, but am concerned about need it to have a "quick learn" run for the tranny.
Oh, that's another thing. A week or so after I replaced the fuse, the tranny started hanging up in 4th gear and go clunk when downshifting. A quick learn had to be run at a service shop to correct that problem.
Any ideas?

Wow i have the exact same van, '03 3.3L with no egr. And i also have the Avital wireless start kit with no problems. Even installed it myself with very neat wiring because i have electrical background. Its sad when professionals do a crappy job. My guess is that when the wires shorted out that fuse, it did some damage to the computer and possibly other parts. Seems to me the computer is dying out, as you say it stopped reporting certain tasks. I wouldnt get a replacement from the junkyard. Find a good deal online and have it programmed.
Looks like that's my path, Tru.
I'm looking at a website, "Flagship One", who will sell me a programmed unit directly. Anyone know of them? Are they reputable?
All I have to do is find the correct part number. Hopefully, there's a legible one on the failing PCM.
