Default Is this a good buy? 2008 SXT with 90k miles for $3k?

Was the 2008 model year really so bad? Everything I read online tells me to run away from it as fast as I can.

Yet I'm still here.

I could use a minivan because it's practical, it's awesome for long road trips with kids.

I was offered this 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT for $3,000. It has 90,000 miles, new pads and rotors, new tires. It has some catalytic converter problems (so the dealer told them) but they will get it fixed or replaced before selling it to me.

What do you all think?

Primary problems I see with this model/year is brake life, TIPM problems, and wheel bearing problems.

If drivetrain is solid and has had regular fluid changes, the body is rust-free, interior is good, i don't see how you can go wrong.

2008 was just the first year of a redesign. Typical gremlins will always pop their heads up.

Thank you guys, I think I will pull the trigger on this one.

After reading everything on the internet, I think I went into panic mode. Sometimes the internet does that to you...

What engine ??? If the oil and tranny and filter has been changed it should be ok for that price. If tranny fluid has not been done then it is time now to do that which will be up to $150.

Thanks, I asked them about the tranny fluid and they said it had been changed once. They are going to give me all the service receipts. It sounds like they took pretty good care of it.

Body is in good shape, interior is good also. I think the value is very good. 90,000 mile minivan in good condition for 3 thousand.

I want to take long trips with it though, it is the reliability that had me concerned.

The engine is the 3.8 liter.

I would buy that car in a heart beat u can't go wrong if she runs and drives good !
Bring it to a garage and have it checked out. Most muffler shops will look at for free others charge a small fee. This would be time and money well spent before u buy it.

PS 3.3L or 3.8L= 6 cylinders are very long lasting engines but the 2.4L= 4 cylinder not so good under powered

Thanks Paul, it is the 3.8 liter, I checked the VIN even to be sure.

It seems to run well.

Thanks for the good advice folks.

Please get the car checked before u buy. Better to lose few bucks to have it looked at then to get stuck with lemon ! Most shops charge nothing to look at it. Meineke Muffler will charge nothing!

Best Regards
Paul
