Default Idle Speed

My wife's 2000 Grand Caravan is having issues. She will not allow me to get rid of it. "I raised both of my kids in it." It has 357,000 miles on it. With original engine, transmission, and injectors. So I can't complain.....

I am a forklift mech. But not a car tech.

This thing had low idle and would go dead if you dropped it to idle quickly, and would idle around 500 rpm, when it would set and idle. I installed a Idle Valve Motor, and a Throttle position sensor.

Now no more going dead, but idling high, around 1,100 RPM. Will the computer "learn" and lower the idle speed, or does the idle speed have to be set?

Thanks

High idle speed is common to a vacuum leak. If vacuum is good, then drive for a couple of days before you panic.

IIRC the pintle on the IAC needs to be adjusted by computer before being installed, otherwise a high/low idle will occur.

If this is not the issue, chances are the IAC you got is bad. Very common to get bad ones from parts stores, even dealers. Best bet is to go pull one from a JY, I've had far better luck with electronics from the JY than any from parts stores/dealerships.

Thanks for the help guys.

After fixing 3 vacuum leaks, problem still there.

Turned out to be a bad new IAC.

Thanks Again

I don't think I've gotten a good IAC, MAP, TPS, or coolant temp sensor from the parts stores or the dealer in at least 5 years. If I do happen to get one that works, it's dead within 3 months.

Good to hear you got it fixed.
