Default SOLVED :Code P0700, P0732, P0720, Bump shifting in 02 Dodge Caravan V6 3.3L Flex Fuel

Hi,
I am posting this as a courtesy to save some Caravan owners some grief. We have a 2002 Dodge Caravan V6 3.3l Flex Fuel, about a month ago, the speedometer started acting wonky, when stopped and brake depressed, the speedometer would move up to 20 mph and fluctuate until we let off the brakes and began to drive. It would also do the infamous Dodge bump shift, as you were stopped it would do this bump, almost as if someone hit us. So, the MIL comes on and throws these three codes. P0700, P0732, and P0720. We tested the battery said it was low, so we replaced, no change, supposedly our charging system was charging appropriately. So, we decided to try the output and input speed sensors, we replaced both, did not fix the issue with the speedometer or the bump. The last thing, which I suspected all along, but is kind of beastly to change, was the alternator. So, we took it down to AutoZone and had them test the alternator, and yep that was it. SO, if you having these kinds of issues and your van is throwing these codes or similar, have your ALTERNATOR checked because I will tell you that is the problem before you waste money on a battery (granted our needed to be replaced because of its age), or sensors, just run to your local parts store and have your ALTERNATOR tested first! Hope this saves some of you grief.

Most likely the alternator was producing too much AC current due to a weak diode. That creates havoc with the microprocessors in your vans electronic modules. The most common symptoms are erratic instruments and harsh transmission shifts controlled by the body control module or BCM and the transmission control module or TCM.
