I have a 2003 Dodge caravan sport, it periodically doesn't want to shift in to drive or when I come to a hard stop won't go into gear. I sometimes have to put it into reverse, neutral, or park and then back into drive for it to go or rev the engine. I dont know what is causing this. Does anyone have any ideas. I do all my own repairs so no sugfestions of putting into the shop please.

 

Sounds like low transmission fluid to me. Check the levels before any damage is done.

 

Agreed. Low trans fluid, even 1/2 qt is enough to make these transmissions do all sorts of interesting things.
Check your fluid level. If that doesn't solve it, change your fluid/filter.
