Gentlemen I ask for your assistance. I had a misfire problem that required me to replace the PCM. I purchased a remanufactured PCM from carcomputerexchange.com in Cary, NC. I followed their instructions to the letter and installed the computer. The vehicle started and ran fine, the misfire was eliminated and I was happy. I didn't notice that a little red light was now displayed on the dashboard. My wife ended up driving the van two days later when I had left town, she ended up stranded and had to be towed home, evidently it is a security light and this computer is thinking the car has been stolen.
Carcomputerexchange told me that evidently the VIN # doesn't match the way the van was actually built and that they would send out another unit that would not have the "SKIM" or something along those lines, my hearing is not the best and Brian with company is a fast talker, slow to return phone calls, but a fast talker.
I received that unit today and installed it, this unit is acting exactly the way my wife had happen, the vehicle will start for a couple seconds and then die, I gave up after the third attempt. I have to think that they programmed this unit just like the first unit I received from them, with the security enabled.
Is there anything that I can do, to get around this issue, short of sending back and waiting on another unit to arrive that would hopefully be programmed correctly?
I would appreciate any advice, especially any on the subject of a "hard reset" , I have heard the term and watched a couple videos but I don't know what the long term affect might be and if we may get stranded somewhere if we try that approach.
