Default Self Adjusting Rear brakes

I'm sorry to ask this but I can't find the answer anywhere. I wish to know what procedure causes the rear drum brakes to adjust to a tighter setting.
1. simply applying the brake pedal when moving forward
2. when applying the brake pedal when moving backward
3 when using the parking brake
Thanks

The shoes should adjust any time the brake pedal is pressed or the parking brake is engaged, as long as there's enough clearance for adjustment.

Is there a problem you're trying to diagnose?

This should be done in reverse.Pump the pedal 3 times, then put in reverse while backing ,pump the brake and hold until you feel the pedal firm up.Pull forward and apply brake and note the fell of the pedal. Then road test.Or a brake shop have them adjust for you..Just a thought..................
