Broken cable on side sliding door ... help please !!!!!
My wife has a wheelchair modified 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.
Today, the passenger side door (the door with the wheelchair ramp), failed to open.
I manually opened it and found the cable laying there with a spring on it.
OK, so one end of the cable broke ... then it looks like it suck in the cable (the back end visible with the spring on it ... front end somewhere behind the track).
Mega problems taking out the track ... the floor on the van was dropped (14") and they left no access holes to get a the bolts that hold the track. I guess I will need to drill wholes in floor to get at the nuts that hold the track ... unless someone has a better idea?
The real problem is I can't find that cable anywhere on the web!
Do they sell the cable or do I need to buy a complete assembly? Part numbers (for the cable if ava
ilable and the complete assembly)?
I also read on the web something about "the door will need to lean and this requires a factor scan tool" ... is this true?
I could not find a drawing of tack for a 2012 ... is there 5 nuts to take off like earlier models? Does anyone have a diagram they can post (again, all I found is diagrams from older models).
This is her first car ever (she was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a diving accident when she was 12 ... she just turned 40) ... she just learned to drive a few years ago using hand controls. The van only has 30K on it!
She is dead in the water and stuck at home (she can't even go to work) till I get it fixed.
What broke was the cable. The end came off. It then got sucked back into the motor from what I can tell (just know I can't see the end when I look at the track or pulley).
I searched some information that I had been sent by the company three years ago when the door was having problems closing.
The track is modified by the factory. They weld a piece on the back to hold a micro-switch that plugs into a custom controller for the lift.
So this leaves me with only two choices.
1) see if I can get the modified assembly from the factory (I could write a page on this ... factory is 2000 miles away ... no local dealer .... will not sell parts direct ... set up a parts ordering service with a company that knows nothing about their vans).
2) I can try to repair/replace the cable. Maybe replace it with a piece of coated aircraft cable.
Does anyone sell a repair kit or just the cable for these units?
I looked on the web. It looks like the Door track, cable and motor are only available as an assembly ... is this true?
