Angry Rear Window blew out

I have a 2019 Dodge Caravan SXT, we just brought it 3 weeks ago brand new.
On 4/29/19

as we were getting ready to go to work around 6:15 am. The night before, it was raining. My husband closed the driver side automatic rear door and driver door simultaneously.
The rear window shattered and blew out wards. Do you know anyone who has experience this before?

Take it in. It’s covered by your bumper to bumper new vehicle warranty.

I looks like the response was mistakenly sent to us moderators as a reported post. Here was the response from nvea808: "We took it to the dealership we brought it from and they said it might not be covered under the warranty. We called Chrysler and they said it will take up to 6 days for them to investigate the problem and If they will fix it."

The dealership is correct. They would have to find some evidence that it wasn't busted by an impact. What a crazy pickle to be in. In the meantime get your local junk yard to look for a used one in case you are on the hook for this. Then you can fight for your money back and compensation for the trouble but hopefully the factory that makes the glass keeps thorough QC records and can say what might have happened. Perhaps the mold wasn't getting hot enough or something. I worked in a building with a plastics molding company and they had issues with week plastics when the plastic wasn't getting hot enough or cooling too quickly, I don't know much about glass though.

Hello nvea808,

We're sorry to see this! Are you currently at the dealer? Send us a direct message if we can be of any assistance with that process.

Wow that really sucks. I've never seen that happen before. I owned a 2003 Caravan and put 270,000 miles on it. I used it as a worked vehicle and slammed the doors all the time and never had this happen to me. I hope your warranty covers it.

Ok. How about insurance comprehensive? My insurance will replace glass with no deductible or impact on my premiums.

Thank you everyone for your input, we fixed the window yesterday. Yes, we had to pay our deductible first.
It's hard to believe that two doors closing at the same time would blow out the rear window. No one ever heard of it happening before, "but It did".

According to the dealership we brought this vehicle from; a week before we came in, someone came in with a similar problem, but his was the moon roof. Just like us, when he shut his driver side door, the moon roof shattered. The technician said it looked like someone punched it from the inside? "go figure?"

We are still waiting to see if it will be covered under warranty. According to the service manager, windows are not covered under warranty.

Thank you all for the support and advice.

Yes it happens...no fca won't believe you. same thing happened this winter at my dealership on a brand new unsold vehicle...Durango sunroof blew out when a saleman shut the door. Trying to get it covered under warranty was almost impossible for the dealership. Paid 0.3 hrs for part replacement....zero to clean up the glass that was everywhere. I'm sure they would give a sold unit even more scrutiny.
