[4th Gen : 01-07]: 2005 Grand Caravan intermittent power liftgate latch
Hi,
I've got a 2005 Grand Caravan with power rear hatch latch problems. It is sometimes unresponsive to the rear latch button. It also sometimes won't respond to the rear hatch button on the key fob or the button on the headliner. What could be the problem? FYI, I've replaced the rear hatch button before.
Thanks,
Bob

Just a guess here, but if neither the fob nor the button will do it at times, it sounds related to power delivery to the lift motor, or the lift motor itself. I would look in the fuse box for a relay related to that circuit, test the relay, and also note that the contacts in the fuse boxes on these vans tend to spread over time, and sometimes lose contact(I just dealt with this on my wife's 2008 model). I ended up taking apart the fuse box, big mistake though, it's a nightmare in there. I got it back together, and ended up adding solder to the relay contacts to make them wider, thus forcing contact. It's a temporary fix, because I'll have to redo it if I replace the relay, but hey, it worked, and it was free. Just a thought.
