[4th Gen : 01-07]: 2006 G Caravan -What amount of a/c oil add to new compressor and drier
Replacing a/c compressor and filter/drier on 2006 dodge grand caravan SXT 3.8L. Has front and rear a/c. How many oz. of PAG 46 should I add? Compressor install Instructions say to "add amount of lubrication per manufacturer's specifications"
Most compressors come with a few ounces of oil already in them from manufacturing. What they’re expecting you to do is what’s called “oil balancing.” You drain as much oil as possible from the old compressor into a measured container, then add or subtract that amount as necessary from the new compressor.
You’ll also need to try and catch the oil lost when changing the receiver dryer to account for that as well.
Read the enclosed material with the new compressor carefully to determine how much oil it’s got in it. If you drain less than that from the old compressor and the receiver dryer, you don’t need to add any. If you drain more, add the difference (ex. if the new compressor has 3 oz and you drain 4, add 1 oz to make up the difference).
