Default 2008 dodge grand caravan gate warning

i just bought a 2008 dodge grand caravan v6 3.8L and the gate open warning keeps displaying on my dash. the door is shut tight and not lose. I have to turn my interior lighs and headlights off otherwise if they are on auto my battery dies. is this common and a easy fix? id prefer to do it myself and not take to a shop!

There is a gate sensor in the rear latch of the door, and it is not sold separately. You'd have to replace the whole latch, which was a couple hundred bucks for just the part. What I did was simply remove the wiring connector from the sensor itself. The default state of the circuit is "closed" so when you remove the sensor it believes the rear hatch is always closed. The rear interior light still works with the dome, and when any other door is open, just not when you open the rear gate which didn't matter to me. 5 minute "fix".

This video is for a Jeep commander, but it's the identical part, and identical solution.
