[5th Gen : 08+]: 08 caravan wont move

Default 08 caravan wont move

08 caravan 3.8 with 62te trans. It will not move forward or back. There are no codes,no wine or any noise. Fluid is full. Dropped the pan and found no metal or clutch material. The fluid is not burnt or black. Changer the filter and fluid and still have the same problem. The solenoid pack is within specs. Pulled the trans and took it apart. All of the clutches and seals look great. No burnt clutches or bad seals (can still read the printing on the clutches). The compounder assembly is in good shape(a little wear on the sealing rings). The only thing i found was the pump had a little wear. I replaced the pump and installed a new converter. Put it all back together and still have the same problem (will not move). Did pressure check and it is good. .checked for codes and has no codes. Going to change the valve body and solenoid pack just to see if it will change anything.

Looking for any help or suggestions before i pull the trans again.

When the transmission was off did you determine if the flywheel and shaft hole (shaft socket? WTF is that hole called?) from out of the engine was turning and the splines inside that hole weren't gone?

That's alot of work to put into something and it still be broke. Wonder if a cooler or line could be clogged? But even then you'd think it would toss a code or two. TCM?

Usually a bad solenoid pack will give a check engine light and codes from the ECM. New pump and torque converter has hydraulic pressure obviously the clutch pack aren't engaging you didn't take the valve body apart and have a misplaced check ball ? You checked low drum compounder unless the lands are worn bad enough not to hold enough pressure to push in the piston to engage reverse or the forward launch gear. You might have to tear down your transmission again and check if you got every part in it's right place.

Within spec for what? Resistance readings on the solenoids, or another spec? Please clarify.

Did this problem come on suddenly or was it beginning to show signs of trouble beforehand? If suddenly, I’d recommend focusing more on the electrical side before going back to the hydraulics - verify all power and ground feeds - just because there’s no codes doesn’t mean there’s no electrical problems. I can post a wiring diagram for you later today.

Do you mean the pilot hole in the end of the crankshaft? I’ve never had one of these transmissions out before but it would be uncommon for it to have splines since the torque converter bolts to the flex plate.

The electrical side can be check out easily enough get an OBD II scanner that can read each modules individually and scan the transmission module it will confirm if it has proper communication with the ECM check the status of each individual shift solenoid and their state NO or NC and command each individual one on and off to confirm that each shift solenoid operating correctly.
