Default A used transaxle for my 2005 2.4 L Caravan

The transaxle on my 2005 Caravan (2.4L 4 Cylinder) after 265,000 miles recently failed. Since the engine still runs great and the car is in overall good shape I’m planning on replacing the transaxle with a low mileage used transaxle from the wrecking yard. According to my research, my 2005 4 cylinder Caravan takes a 40TE transaxle (as do similar Caravans made between 2003-2007). A few of the other vehicles listed that take the same transaxle are:

2003-2010 PT Cruiser
2003-2006 Chrysler Sebring
2003-2005 Dodge Neon
2003-2006 Dodge Stratus

When I went to the local wrecking yard I was told only a transaxle from a similar 4 cylinder Caravan would work. Naturally I’m skeptical, does anyone here know for a fact what kind of vehicle(s) my 40TE transaxle can come from and still work in my Caravan without problems.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give me.

Steve

The internal parts would be the same. But the case and torque converter may not. Have you try checking with Rock auto? On a transmission.

The torque converter and case dimensions are what has me worried. I checked Rockauto but couldn't find anything. Thanks for your post, I appreciate the help!

Chrysler like all car manufacturer uses model numbers for their parts a 40te transaxle are all similar in size and dimension they don't have different variation of the same model of transmission for inventory purposes and replacement parts. The 40te was use on various models that used the inline 4 cylinder FWD engine the torque converter and gear ratio should also be all the same. Anyway most junkyards around here will let you bring things back and return your money if it doesn't fit or work for any particular situation.
