[3rd Gen : 96-00]: 2006 GCV 3.3 Intermittent engine shaking
I have a very strange problem that I'm going to try my best to put into words.
I work as a mechanic and this one has me stuck.
This is my daily driver and has 270,xxx miles.
So to start off I've had a P0406 (EGR position sensor high) code for over 2 years.
This didn't affect the derivability and I did nothing about it.
I'm not sure if this code is related to my current problem, but I did replace the EGR valve yesterday.
This did not fix the engine shaking problem.
There are no codes for misfires and the van runs every smoothly until this engine shaking problem comes up.
So every time you turn the van on it will run smoothly.
When you turn on the A/C a few seconds after the compressor engages the engine starts to shake pretty bad.
You can accelerate and once you get going the shaking goes away. Once you start to slow down the engine will start to shake again.
It never feels like the engine is loosing power. The problem will happen with or without the A/C engaged. It just seems like it's more prone to happen with it on.
Also it seems like in the morning the problem happens less. I think the problem is worse when it's hot outside.
So yesterday during lunch I hooked the laptop up to it.
Start the van, and it runs great. Turn the A/C on to make the problem happen and the engine starts to shake.
Turn the A/C off and wait, and the engine still shakes. RPM's remain steady while engine is shaking..
Turn the van off while it's shaking and it seems like after the switch is off it takes it a hair longer than normal to turn off completely.
Turn the van back on, and everything is normal again. No shaking until I start driving or turn the A/C on again.
I repeated these steps multiple times yesterday and the same thing happened ever time.
No misfire codes. All injectors seems to be working properly. I killed one at a time while it was running properly and watched the engine start to stumble.
Spark plugs are fairly new. I'm confused because there's no misfire codes. Any ideas of thoughts on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
I don't want to just throw parts at it. I'm still driving the van because it's my only mode of transportation.
Maybe a timing problem? I'm just confused as to why it won't throw a code.
