[4th Gen : 01-07]: Service Tire System Soon, New TPMS x 4 Sets, Sets are coming unprogrammed.
I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan. When I purchased the vehicle it had a "Service Tire System Soon" sign in the middle ceiling display.
MY question is what could be causing the TPMS's of different brands to unprogram themselves? I don't believe using OEM TPMS is going to solve the issue, but I could be wrong?
- First I brought it to Big-O-Tires. They replaced the TPMS and after driving 20 miles to sync the TPMS I was showing low tire pressure on the dash and the Service Tire System Soon warning in the display. Brought the vehicle back. Confirmed that all tire pressures were good. Their shop noted that 1/4 of the programmed tires were no longer programmed.
- They reprogrammed all the tires, I drove another 20+ miles and the same issue occurred with low tire pressure and Service Tire System Soon (It never turned off). Brought the car back and this time all 4 were no longer programmed.
- Replaced with a whole different set, different brand. 20+ miles, the same issue occurs, all 4 no longer programmed. Reprogrammed and I drove another 20+ miles. Checked and all 4 were again no longer programmed.
- Removed the set so that I had no TPMS and went to a new shop.
- New shop states that they had to program my computer and that the TPMS were all programmed and syncing with the computer. The Service Tire System soon and Low Tire light were gone! 3 days later, the Service tire system soon returns.
- Bring into the shop, all 4 tires are no longer programmed. The shop reprogrammed the tires and stated that the computer was correctly programmed and they did not need to adjust it. Asked to bring it back if it happens again.

The question is mainly, why is it after driving around 20 miles, that they would become unprogrammed? It's happened with 3 sets. When the tech goes to read them with his sensor, he says they are not programmed to the car anymore.
The next step that may need to be done, Is to write down all the numbers off the sensor by using the new mopar scan tool for sensors and then program all the information into the module/TPMS.
I hadn't had a chance to drive my car this week, but drove 20 miles yesterday and when I hit exactly 20 miles the car made a ding noise, the air pressure light went on and off a bit (flashing), the air pressure light turned off, and the "Service Tire System Soon" sign popped up on my middle roof display.
I will ask the mechanic to give me a step by step of what he is doing and ask that he write down the numbers from the sensors and program them into the module.
It's still a mystery as to why at exactly 20 miles they become disconnected and unprogrammed.

I did a 4-5 hour drive. During this drive the Service Tire System Soon kept dinging about every 20 minutes/miles. Overnight we had freezing temps and the next morning I woke up and the Service Tire System Soon message was gone. After driving later that day, it came back.
Any ideas? I have heard something like maybe the Powertrain Control Module could be bad? Is that what controls the Tire System overall? If not, what module does control it? I am trying to research but figured I would ask on here too.
