[5th Gen : 08+]: Rear spoiler problem detected
You're gonna love this one! So, There I am putting a bike carrier on the back hatch. I tightened all the straps and went to open the hatch when I hear CRUNCH!!! The spoiler got hung up on the roof and most of the clip holing it broke including the retaining slots on the spoiler itself! Looked up how to remove and replace it. I got it off and ended up using JB WELD to glue the studs back in place (this stuff is amazing, by the way - Excellent epoxy). I replace the broken teflon clips. Managed to put everything back together before the epoxy set and let it cure. When I went back to check on it, it was solid as a rock!!! Ok, now on to the real cause of the problem. I was reinstalling bike carrier on and notice that at the exact location where I put on of the hooks, there is a gap between the spoiler and metal part of the hatch. I had apparently hooked the plastic spoiler right there without hooking onto the metal. Unbeknownst to me at the time, in tightening the straps, the hook pulled up on the plastic spoiler so much that it caught on the roof upon opening. That little dip in the metal lip at the top of the hatch is where the tube for the washer is run - Apparently so it doesn't get pinched. So....... For any of you mounting a bike carrier to the back of your Gen5 (Grand) Caravan, watch out for this!!!!!!!!!
