Default Coolant or other liquid than oil, in the engine

Hello everyone,

I have a 2013 Dodge Ram C/V. I bought it used a few year ago, the car has 145 000 km.

Last summer I was driving while the temperature begin to rise a little bit. I stoped and checked the level of coolant in the side tank and it was empty.

I added some coolant to be able to come back at home.

The temperature was not stable on the way back home. I continue to use the car while some times, but I notice that I'm loosing coolant, where, I don't know yet.

No trace on the ground. Last winter when I was warm up the car before to go I notice some coolant on the snow at the right front corner.

Last oil change I was very surprise to see the quantity of liquid in the engine. I recovered 7 liters. It contains 5,6 liters of oil.The liquid no longer had the viscosity of oil, it was almost like dark water. How this can happen ?

Is a leak of head gasket of the engine could be responsible ?

I thougt about the engine cooler ? It could be broken and the coolant enter directly in the engine. Is this could happen ?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Did you oil resemble a chocolate milkshake? If so, that's a blown headgasket, and you should stop driving it.

Usually, it will either be coolant or gasoline. Since you didn't mention fuel mileage dropping, but you are losing coolant, you have an internal coolant leak. Either you have a blown head gasket or your intake has spring an internal leak on the cross over. Water does NOT lubricate the internal parts. Park the van. There is a test kit to check for exhaust gasses. This might be positive for exhaust gasses, but if it's your intake, it won't show anything. There is also a VERY slight possibility of a leak at the timing cover. I've only seen your problem from that one or twice.

Either way, don't drive it until repaired. You don't want to burn the bearings out.
