Default Electrical issues. No dash light or interior lights, no turn sign and wipers stay on

I have a 2008 grand caravan. I was driving down the road and my wipers came on and I lost all dash lights as well as the interior light. I also lost my turn signals. It has happened a few times, usually only lasting 5-10 seconds. However the last time it lasted 3 days, and then out of nowhere just started working again. It went a week with no issues, then everything went out again. What could cause this?

The symptoms you're describing—random loss of dash lights, interior lights, turn signals, and unexpected wiper activation—suggest an issue with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) or a faulty ground connection. Here are the most likely causes:

1. Faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM)

  • The TIPM is the main fuse and relay control center for your van, and it’s known to cause electrical issues in Chrysler/Dodge vehicles, especially around your model year.
  • Symptoms of a failing TIPM include:
    • Random loss of electrical functions (dash lights, signals, wipers, etc.).
    • Intermittent operation—works fine for a while, then stops.
    • Erratic behavior like wipers turning on by themselves.

2. Loose or Corroded Ground Connection

  • A bad ground can interrupt power to multiple circuits and cause electrical gremlins.
  • Check the main chassis ground connections (especially near the battery, fuse box, and engine).
  • Look for corrosion, loose bolts, or frayed wires and clean/tighten as necessary.

3. Wiring Harness Issues (Shorts or Loose Connections)

  • A damaged or frayed wire (especially under the dashboard or near the TIPM) can cause intermittent power loss.
  • Check for any obvious signs of wear, especially in areas where wires might flex or rub.

4. Ignition Switch Failure

  • If the ignition switch is failing, it could cut power to certain accessories.
  • Try jiggling the key slightly when the issue happens to see if it momentarily restores power.

How to Diagnose:

  1. Check for stored trouble codes using an OBD2 scanner—even if the check engine light isn’t on.
  2. Inspect fuses & relays in the TIPM for loose or corroded connections.
  3. Perform a voltage drop test on major ground points to see if there's excessive resistance.
  4. Gently tap the TIPM when the issue is happening to see if anything changes—if so, it's likely the TIPM.

Recommended Fixes:

  • If it’s the TIPM: You may need to replace it (~$300–$700 for a new unit, or you can find reconditioned ones for less).
  • If it’s a ground issue: Clean and secure all ground points.
  • If it’s wiring-related: Trace and repair any damaged wiring.
  • If it’s the ignition switch: Replace it if jiggling the key seems to affect power.
Given that the problem is intermittent but getting worse, I’d strongly suspect the TIPM or a bad ground as the primary culprit.
