I have a 1997 Dodge Caravan that has a new problem. When I turn steering wheel even slightly to the left while driving, the rear liftgate alarm goes off and all the door locks start locking and unlocking. There is a bit of a back story....a few months ago the rear liftgate latching mechanism became stuck in open position and despite multiple attempts to get it operational, I gave up, removed latch (no wrecking yards around to look for replacement) and have used a pressure strap to keep the rear hatch tightly closed and this has worked well until now!! In Youtubing things I see there is a sensor in this mechanism which obviously can't be replaced because the entire latch system is no longer there. I have ZERO need for power locks or door alarms is there some way to deactivate these? I am on a fixed income and I need to keep this vehicle limping along, mechanic wants $300 just to evaluate problem and who knows how much more to actually fix it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
