[5th Gen : 08+]: HELP. Oil leak in 2012 Caravan
The shop looked at my 2012 Caravan (3.6 liter) for a transmission issue. I had it replaced with a Chrysler original tranny a few months ago at 190 k and I'm at over 210 k now, and, of course, it's acting up. I also have been getting a P0520 and P0522 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch "A" circuit and Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch "A" Low faults. They looked at the faults and recommended replacing the sensor, and I scheduled it for next month.
Today I drove a couple hundred miles for work and during the drive I returned to a place I had been and saw a spattering of oil under where my engine had been when I parked there earlier (snow really helps spot leaks). I checked under the hood and there was some oil on top of the transmission casing, and the oil was a little low. I immediately put in a quart and drove more (I'm used to Chryslers, so changing my oil via the leaking method is second nature). The leak appeared to be getting worse with more widespread spatter and the oil level was lower still. I fed it oil and about 30 miles later i stopped and there was a thin trail of oil where I pulled in. I fed it more oil and drove home.
There is definitely a puddle of oil on the top of the transmission, and spray in the area but I couldn't see any specific leak source. The drip also appears to be running down and dropping from the bottom of the transmission. There's a solid spot where it's dripping, then a spatter of drops around that spot.
What could be leaking oil in that area where it's pooling on top of the tranny, and tell me it's a cheap, easy, simple fix. Or tell me the truth. Does the bad sensor do more than sense and report? Did I cause this by driving with the bad sensor?
