service engine codes
only code you have to worry about is 43. Not sure but maybe fuel system related. possible O2? goto a autoparts store and "browse" in their "library" section"
The 12 means the battery was disconnected and will clear itself after so many starts, and the 55 means the end of the test. So only real code is the 43. Dont quote me on it being O2, only a guess.

I would think you could just use the ignition switch on that model....but if it is a scanner, DCX uses the ODB II.
Just take it up to autozone and they will get the codes and tell you what they are.

Up to 97? or so you could just turn the ignition key on-off-on-off-on and the check engine light will flash codes. It worked on our 96 Neon, but not on our 99 Dakota. So not exactly sure when you need the scanner. Even our 87 Shadow, you could pull the codes with the ignition key trick. That is how I fixed that car. But for the most part on a 96 the ignition key trick should work hopefully.

Code 43 is a generic misfire code, because you have a running problem. Was it running bad before you put the wires on?? Its possible they are on in the wrong order.
Marc1234, evap system leak is your code. Check all of the rubber hoses that are connected to the one with the green service cap on it (usually around the battery), also check the ones underneath by the charcoal canister (in front of the gas tank)
