I have the above Caravan which has 145,000 miles on it about 4 months ago the a/c compressor started a growling noise I though it was the compressor but the guy at the auto parts store said it was the a/c clutch. I have never worked much on a/c before but decided to give it a shot and replaced the clutch. It was no problem to replace and the old clutch was pretty well buggred up and had black stuff all over it. But now the new one makes the same noise I have had the clutch on and off a number of time adjuesting the shims to try and decrease the noise but no luck so far. The a/c works great but clutch is noisey. Any suggestions this is driving me crazy. I priced getting a new compressor installed and was it was $1,000, A bit much.

 

It is probably the compressor-wouldn't be the first one I saw go bad.
