Default custom intake for 2005 caravan

I want to make a custom ram or cold air intake for my 2005 Caravan, and get rid of the stock air box. Has anyone done this? What is the sensor inside the stock intake hose and any ideas how I could mount it in a new intake pipe?
So far it looks like I'll need 3" aluminum intake piping with 5/8" aluminum hose fitting welded to it, 3" hose couplers with hose clamps, and a 3" cone filter. Am I missing anything?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Should work ok, the sensor is the intake air temperature sensor, you need that or the check engine light will come on. Probably could just make a hole that will accomodat a grommet to hold the sensor.

Hey, thanks. I'm used to working on older cars. If that is a temp sensor where is the air flow sensor? I just want to be sure to account for everything before I start pulling things out and replacing them.

its uses a MAP sensor, it reads engine vacumn, & looks at a table of values & determines how much fuel to dump in

the newer 3rd & 4th gen vans get outside sourced cold air from the factory, you'll prolly gain more using the stock air box (also acts as an air resouvor, noone thinks of that), but eliminating that silly ribbed TB hose for something much smoother, installing a K&N panel filter, & ditching the intake resonator
