96 caravan tranny problem
New up date on the 96 tranny.</P>
After driving it for a bout a 100 miles then shuting it off and starting again and then about another 25 miles the check engine soon lite comes on and reads out a 37 code for the tranny.</P>
This has done this twice. as long as I don't go on a long trip it is ok and does not come on after resetting it,I can go to town and back(50-60 round trip )and its fine. But if I go the 100 and then let it set for 2-3 hours and go again it comes on? It is still working great as far as I can tell.It is full of nice red tranny fluid. It shifts great.</P>
Any Ideas?</P>

Well, that code should be:
Part throttle unlock (PTU) solenoid circuit is open or shorted.
Possible Causes -
Bad connection or wiring - Check the wiring and connections between the logic module and the solenoid. Clean and regrease any corroded connectors with dielectric grease and repair any shorts.
Bad solenoid - The solenoid is located in the right, front fender next to one to three other solenoids. See the Understanding Solenoids page for information about how to test and repair solenoids.
Hope that helps!!

Harold,
Do not put dielectric grease on your electrical connections. Dialectic
grease is nonconductive, and it could impair your circuit. You
are supposed to use the stuff to grease spark plug boots etc.,
not the connection themselves. It is an insulator, not an
'electical lube'[/b] as many wrongly think.

<div></div>
<div>Just look up the word dielectric in the dictionary, or call your dodge
dealer and ask amechanic, if you doubt me.

<div>I also used to think it was for lubeing connections and many other people do, so it is a common misconception. It
is better if connections are clean and dry and shielded from moisture dirt
etc., by a protective covering like aboot orelectrical tape. The grease can
even attract and hold dirt and grime, if left to the open air.</div>

<div>OK, I'll leave you all in peace now. Have a great day! :></div>

I hope you aren't assuming that every Chrysler employee knows about this.
Why there are even Dodge mechanics who do things like, ....damage the
prindle switch connection when installing a solenoid pack on your transmission,
neglects to retrain it after the installation, and then even hands it over to the
customer like that!
I know, because this happened to me just the other day. I
never had any shifting problem until after I had it "repaired" by the
dealer.
Assuming all Chrysler employees are knowledgeable and
trustworthy? Now that is funny. LOL! : D
<div>
dielectric : noun
A material such as glass or porcelain with negligible
electrical or thermal conductivity.</div>
<div>
insulator
nonconductor </div>

I didn't say that, I said if they (Chrysler)are telling it wrong (as in the TSB I pulled the code from) then lots of people make the mistake... which would include dealerships and stuff... I didn't question you at all.

Hey I didn't mean to start a war here.LOL I just want to fix my van!!!</P>
I had help putting the tranny in and the other guy did hook up the wires but he ussally does a good job. </P>
I havn't been able to get it back in the garage yet to recheck it but if I find the cause I will let you know.</P>
And I do have to agree with Natasha the grease is to keep it dry not tomake ita better conductor,it just seals the boot to keep the conectors dry.</P>
