Default V6 question..

Hi, I have the bug for a New challenger, But the R/T I want is out of my budget, Is the 3.5 lt V/6 a gutluss pig? To put this question into perspective, I drive a 2500 06 Ram with the 5.7 and 6sp, looking for the same performance from a 250 H/P V6 to a 345 H/P engine.

Its kinda hard comparing apples to oranges, but I have all the power I need with my truck, just would like a challenger that can compete with any othier forgin or domostic V/6.

Seriously---why would you even consider a Challenger with ANY V-6. Save your money and buy the 6.1. Gutless wonder is an understatement in a 3.5. Your wanting to buy a present day musclecar and you'll really feel like a fool when some ricer blows your doors off.

Just my .02----but I think you'd be making a serious mistake!!!!!!

A base Challenger can be had for abought 25 grand, new in CDN $$$, A R/T Challenger is pushing 40 grand in CDN $$$, SRT Challengers start at 45 Grand, but You will never see a base challenger SRT 8 at a dealer lot..

The best way to know is to drive one and see if the experience is satisfying to you. The Challenger based on the acceleration time numbers will probably not be able to out run a Mustang V6 due to the gearing & lighter weight of the Mustang, but it shouldn't be entirely a slug either. The 3.5L is supposed to do the 0-60 run in the lower 7 second range. I have never read a review on a 6-speed 2500 Ram, but I know the automatic in the MT test in 2003 did it in 8.1 secs. It would probably be faster than the Ram, but I'm not sure how the seat of the pants will feel like it.

Another thing to consider is that there are ways to modify the car to improve this; however, also understand that there are limitations likely with this as the 42RLE hasn't been used with anything more powerful than the 3.5L itself.

You have to be the judge in what will make you satisfied. All I can say is I currently own my second Chrysler product with a 3.5L and am pleased with it, but I'm not going to get a Challenger until I can afford a Hemi. Good luck in your decision.
