How to convince the parents not to sell the challenger????
I have a 2009 dodge challenger srt 8. its hemi orange and black and is absolutly loaded. kicker subs, nav system, the whole deal. now that our business is going south it seems that my parents (in their infinate wisdom)
have decided that we dont need this car right now. How can i convince them not to sell this car???....its absolutly georgous and i love it. they justify their argument with the fact that we have an 89 pontiac trans am bandit edition but the challenger has my vote....any and all ideas are appreciated
I'd tell them that with the car market the way it is, that you will LOSE money if you sell it. I will assume that you have a loan on it. I will assume that you have at least 5k miles or more on it too. I will also assume that you have owned the car less than 9 months. If all the above is true, then your parents haven't even put a dent in the principal balance on the car. Maybe a couple hundred dollars and that is it. Which means that if they sell the car, they will never get the new car price that will be needed to payoff the car, thus causing them to spend more money just to get out from the loan.
I would suggest that the TA gets sold and put that money into the Challenger and refinance it to lower the payments. If the TA is in good condition and runs great, you might be able to get a car guy to give you around $5000 for (maybe more or less depending on the condition). Put that into the Dodge and lower the payment $50-$75 a month.
The last thing that I can think of is that the Challenger probably gets better gas mileage than a '89 TA. This is an assumption, but could make a good argument.
If that happens, you have now got rid of one car to lower the monthly insurance bill. You have now put money into the Dodge loan to lower that payment. And you are driving a car that gets better MPG's thus saving money on the monthly gas allowance and you are doing the right thing for our environment. LOL!!!!
How's that?

I'm sure you don't want to hear it, but I've been in your parent's shoes. If they think the car should be sold, they are probably right. Better to lessen monthly expenses than to lose the business, which I'm assuming is their bread and butter. Look at it another way, if they don't sell the car, and the business still fails, you'd lose the car anyways when they couldn't make the payment.
If your parents are upsidedown on a loan then they are going to have to pay money to get rid of the Challenger. If they are going to have to pay money to get rid of it, why not pay money to keep it? The few hundred dollars a month for the payment may be easier to come up with on a monthly basis than the few thousand dollars all at once to get out of the loan. And in a few more months their business may be looking better. Worst case scenario is they can't make a payment and the bank has to take a car away that has a bigger loan amount on it than it is worth, and your parents save the extra money they would have spent to get out of the loan.
