Default Replacing thermostat on 2010 challenger

My Check engine light recently came on this week. A guy at autozone says it's the thermostat or the sensor. Does anyone have any tips on replacing the thermostat or a video? Even the location of the thermostat would be helpful. Thanks

What was the exact code? A bad thermostat will not throw a code. A bad sensor could. Need to know the exact code before you just start throwing parts at it. It would also be helpful if you would state the year and engine of your vehicle. Thermostat locations differ depending on the engine.

Verify coolant strength & level
Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary.
Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary. Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.

If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat

What's your temperature gauge doing? Checked the coolant level? Cooling fans coming on?

Cool, so changing the thermostat would be pointless and a waste of time? I've verified the coolant level I can check into those others hoping they'll resolve the issue. And my gauge hand Is more over to the Cool side on the dash I haven't watched the movement lately.

If the engine never reaches operating temp then it will throw a code because the engine stays too cold.
